Class Notes gets some attention from NYU

Posted: Mar 10 2008 No Comments Share This

NYU’s Washington Square News gave us a nod for our class notes section as one of their “6 quirky but useful internet buys“. We’re happy to help, NYU.

We only launched at NYU 2 months ago and with nearly 1 out of 5 NYU students already using Uloop, it’s easy to see how class notes can make a big impact.

The power of OO

Posted: Feb 7 2008 No Comments Share This

I just read a great post by Johnny Debacle on The Remunerative Powers of OO.

In it he proposes that OO assets outperform OOless assets… pointing to Google’s domination in search and contextual advertising - making short work of the old standbys Altavista, AskJeeves and others. Yahoo rose to the top as well. MySpace? Nothing compared to the OO power of Facebook.

Even phonics count in Johnny’s eyes… YouTube, Bluetooth. And HD-DVD was no match for Blu-Ray.

While I can’t say we consulted Johnny Debacle in our company name, Uloop sure is proud of its OO power and look forward to continuing to empower students everywhere.

We heart NYU!

Posted: Jan 31 2008 No Comments Share This

The Washington Square News at New York University wrote up a great story on our NYU launch… Students get free storefront.

Marc Beja, who wrote the piece, tracked down a great quote from NYU sophomore, Amy Armani, “Usually, I would just sell my textbooks back to the NYU bookstore for the pitiful 50 percent or less of the original price. It’s often difficult to find university-specific texts on other sites.”

We’re glad to help, Amy!

NYU has been one of our best launches ever. They were our first school to hit over 1000 textbook posts active and available… and it only took a week or so to get there. Epic!

Our reps Nick and Kamili are true rock stars. Keep up the good work.

We’re big in Texas!

Posted: Jan 18 2008 No Comments Share This

Nancy Tran, the campus representative for Uloop, staples a poster to one of the many kiosks on campus. Uloop is advertising a service similar to Craigslist designed specifically for college communities. This week we launched at University of Texas at Austin and The Daily Texan ran a great piece introducing Uloop to the campus – Uloop offers textbook options via online sales.

Sabrina Vera interviewed our amazing UT reps, Linda and Nancy (pictured), as well as Skip and me. Sabrina was a pleasure to talk with and even pointed out that we didn’t include Journalism in our list of majors. It’s there now, Sabrina! Thanks for the feedback.

Student Textbook Exchange

Posted: Jan 15 2008 No Comments Share This

Uloop sponsors Cal Poly Royal RodeoFriends don’t let friends flush their money away at the bookstore.

I’m serious! Look at the math…
At a bookstore the average new textbook costs $102.44*. But with Uloop the average price is just $37! That’s $65 per book in savings just by using Uloop. Eat your heart out Amazon! Students win with Uloop.

Even when students sell their books to their classmates on the cheap, they’re still ahead of the bookstore buyback prices. It’s like there’s a warp in the space-time continuum over there. So if you see someone packing a bag full of books headed for the bookstore, do the right thing and send them to Uloop.com instead.

As always, buying and selling your stuff on Uloop is local and completely free.

* a 2004 study published by CALPIRG found the average new textbook to be $102.44. Uloop averages around $37 (that’s saving about 64% on each book)!

Happy Birthday Uloop!

Posted: Jan 8 2008 No Comments Share This

Happy Birthday Uloop! That’s right! For a solid year now Uloop has been making it easier for students to buy and sell textbooks, find roommates, housing, and even jobs!

In the last year we’ve seen a lot of action on the site. Here are a few highlights:

  • 10,299 textbooks listed – averaging 64% off of retail prices* with an estimated total savings of over $650,000!
  • 6284 events promoted
  • 5056 roommates & housing posts
  • 2146 job opportunities
  • And 57 pets have found a new home!

And we’re still just getting started… We believe we can double those numbers in the first quarter of this year! Want to help? Post your textbooks or look for housing.

Only a year ago we were just a wee little site at UC Santa Barbara, but now we’ve grown to 50 schools nationwide. And we’re not stopping there! As always we have a few tricks up our sleeves for the new year, so stay tuned for a host of new updates and feature requests coming to life over the next few weeks.

We just made posting your textbooks even easier

Posted: Nov 16 2007 1 Comment Share This

Today we launched a new feature to make selling your textbook to fellow students even easier. Instead of entering in all the details about your book, just enter the ISBN and we’ll do it for you, including a nice photo of the book.

Try it out for yourself.

Simple as pie! Enjoy.

Did you miss the week 2 lecture in Bio Engineering/ME C117: Structural Aspects of Biomaterials with Professor Lisa Pruitt? If so, I’m not sure it matters!

UC Berkeley is now offering many of its courses online via YouTube. What a great use of this technology. Here is a listing of all of the courses available and an example.
