A couple of Uloop employees had a few nice quotes in the story.

“The primary motivation for Uloop is for students to connect with each other on campus,” said Corey Cleek, Uloop co-founder and CEO. “We did some focus groups and there’s a lot of different areas in which students designated their campus resources were inefficient, so the categories on the Web site are designed to make up for those inefficiencies.”

And

“Uloop is a practical-needs network,” [Jessica] Smith said. “It really is a one-stop shop for college students.”

Thousands of Indiana University students are using Uloop to buy and sell textbooks, find jobs, housing and more!

Let’s also not forget the budding Web site, www.uloop.com, where you can share everything from apartments for rent to carpool opportunities. Uloop, however, doesn’t grant any payment when you plug them into your column.

Take for instance the iPod. When the iPod first came out it was like a foot long by 3/4 foot. Now they’re 100 x’s smaller, no wonder students lose these things in droves. Through our research we’ve found that students are losing the smallest things and seeking help from other students on Uloop. The most common items are flash drives, iPods, keys, wallets, phones, meal cards, a French passport, dogs (chihuahuas and cockapoos) and glasses.

Bigger Phone

Thus we decided to come up with a few ways to help students not lose stuff.

Solutions:

-Buy a retro phone that is 8×4x2 inches
-Camera, don’t you have one of those on your phone?
-Chain your wallet to your person
-Keys (see above)
-Carry a Walkman rather than iPod Nano
-Flash drive, ever heard of paper and pen?
-Laptop, are you kidding me, our folks would kill us if we lost a laptop
-GET A BIGGER DOG!!!

Luckily Uloop is restoring students’ faith in humanity with a lot of found items. What impressed us the most was that the number of lost iPods was almost equal to the number of found iPods on Uloop. The concerning part was there were more found dogs than lost, hmmmm.

Great job students!!! You are the future and we’re proud!
