I caught an article on CNN.com tonight giving students some tips on how to decorate their dorm rooms this fall to give them a sense of home. Much of the article was fluff, telling you things that you probably could’ve figured out on your own or have seen in other places already. Things like:
Declutter your dorm: Get rid of items you don’t need or don’t love so you can focus on the things you do love. Organize your space so you fit in 90 percent of everything and have 10 percent open. If you have openness, the world will bring more to you!
Bring items from home: Instead of buying new stuff for your dorm, bring items from home that will make you feel comfortable. Nate says he brought a lamp, a framed picture and chest of drawers to college. Daphne says she brought her bed from home. “I brought my own bed to college — that was crucial, it really changed everything,” she says.
So that got me thinking. Why don’t we pull together a list of comments from students and create a “top 10 things you can do to dress up your dorm room this fall” in a post a few weeks from now.
Please comment below and I’ll post them as a top 10 list in a couple weeks.

Put up a lot of pictures from home, maybe a few family pictures, some pictures with friends, and even a picture with your dog. Also, bring some gift wrap so you can cover your bulletin board before you put your pictures and/or posters up. This will create a fun, original environment that no one else will have!
