An article came out in the UNC Mirror that highlights the fact that Uloop will be saving university students a ton of money this textbook season.
We’d like to be transparent and correct a couple of stats The Mirror refered to. They shared that 8,000 UNC students use Uloop.com. Currently there are 800 UNC using Uloop. This was probably a typo. And they also mentioned 82,000 textbooks have been sold at UNC this year. There have been 82,000 on Uloop.com across our many campuses, not just at UNC.
We’re excited to welcome UNC into the Uloop.com family!
Students at Missouri State are now a part of the Uloop.com network. Just in time too because textbook season is right around the corner!
Electronic resources librarian and associate professor Edward Proctor said he likes ULoop’s simple design and its ease of access, when compared with printed classified ads. He said he thinks the “housing,” “carpool” and “lost and found” sections could be very useful.
…Proctor said having the option to buy locally is important.
“Anything that’s locally focused saves a lot of time,” he said.

Uloop got a chest bump today from The Eagle at American University. Ethan Klapper wrote a great piece on Uloop’s launch. Check out the full article on The Eagle.
MacCarthy said he looks forward to Uloop serving the AU community.
A cool article about Uloop by Sharon Keller went up earlier this week. She spoke to a couple of students about Uloop at MSU Makato and they had some great things to say about Uloop.
MSU student Troy Brua joined because “it was a Web site based on community and a close-knit group would likely be more responsive.” Brua also likes how easy it is to navigate the Web site and is currently awaiting bids on the moped he is selling.
Yesterday we were mentioned in a US News & World Report article entitle 10 Must-Do’s the First Week of College. The articles focus was on the absolute basic things you need to do in order to have a shot at having a successful year. My guess is that many students already know this information, but it might be worth a quick read to make sure you’ve gotten through all 10 items.
Uloop was mentioned as a part of #7: Buy the Books.
7. Buy the books. You’ll want to own your own copy of all the required books. And consider (cheaper) alternatives to the campus bookstore: amazon.com, bn.com, and half.com among online retailers; chegg.com and bookrenter.com for semester-long book rentals; coursemart.com, cafescribe.com, and flatworldknowledge.com for E-books; and uloop.com, craigslist.com, and even the online version of the student newspaper for student-to-student book exchange. Check ‘em out!
The Appalachian did a nice story on Uloop this morning. Mary Elizabeth Robertson got some great quotes about the effectiveness of Uloop already at Appalachian State and really captured how students are feeling about textbooks right now.
“The line [at the bookstore] is pretty terrible, but even worse, they jack prices up, then we don’t get anything back for it when we sell it back, but then they resale it for double its original price,” sophomore medical administration major Christopher D. Tennyson said.
“I like that it’s like a notice board for happenings that I can see from my room instead of scanning boards in the Student Union,” Lasko said.

Xavier from HyveUp sits down and did a short video interview with Uloop Co-Founder Ryan MacCarthy.

Garrett Stack did a story on Uloop in the Indiana Daily Student. A couple of Uloop employees had a few nice quotes in the story.
“The primary motivation for Uloop is for students to connect with each other on campus,” said Corey Cleek, Uloop co-founder and CEO. “We did some focus groups and there’s a lot of different areas in which students designated their campus resources were inefficient, so the categories on the Web site are designed to make up for those inefficiencies.”
And
“Uloop is a practical-needs network,” [Jessica] Smith said. “It really is a one-stop shop for college students.”
Thousands of Indiana University students are using Uloop to buy and sell textbooks, find jobs, housing and more!
Staff columnist Tanya Dracolakis wrote a great column today on finding a place to live this summer and into next school year. Her column is peppered with whit and humor and worth reading. In her humor she mentioned Uloop.com as a place for finding housing around San Diego State University.
Let’s also not forget the budding Web site, www.uloop.com, where you can share everything from apartments for rent to carpool opportunities. Uloop, however, doesn’t grant any payment when you plug them into your column.
Thanks for the plug as a “budding website [to find housing around your campus]” Tanya. While we can’t pay for the plug, we can help you find housing!
1 of out every 5 students using Uloop at San Diego State has used Uloop to find a house or roommate since Uloop launched at SDSU.
